“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it!” – This explosion of joy erupts in the Easter liturgy, as a new day dawns for humanity with the resurrection of Christ. It is from this very Paschal antiphon that the title of one of four new motets by Father Dawid Kusz OP, Hæc Dies, is taken, which also became the title of the album we are making available.
The series consists of four motets:
- the aforementioned Hæc dies,
- the Easter sequence Victimae paschali laudes (To the Paschal Victim, Christians, bring the sacrifice of praise),
- the Eucharistic hymn Panis angelicus (Bread of Angels), taken from St. Thomas Aquinas’s hymn for the Feast of Corpus Christi,
- the Marian antiphon Ave Regina caelorum, traditionally sung after Compline in the Liturgy of the Hours, the prayer at the end of the day.
