Last Sunday, September 14, the eighteenth liturgical retreat of Mysterium fascinans ended. Many participants appreciated this year’s theme “Through our mouths: liturgy and creation” and the way the invited speakers took it up.
The retreat took place for the second time at the Benedictine Abbey in Tyniec, on the western edge of Krakow. The scenery is unusual, because it is not only the oldest operating monastery in Poland, located just above the Vistula Gorge – the so-called The Tyniec Gate – but also the abbey where Benedictine monks live and pray every day. This context is important for the retreat because it allows participants to engage in the existing rhythm of the Liturgy of the Hours in this place.
This year’s papers, dealing with the topic of creation in the context of the liturgy, were met with a positive reception by many of almost two hundred participants of the retreat. The presentations were delivered by invited guests: Fr. Janusz Pyda, OP (Warsaw), sr. Judyta Pudełko, PDDM (Warsaw), Fr. Marcin Drąg, OFMConv (Krakow), Fr. Bartosz Wronikowski (Krakow) and Fr. Krzysztof Porosło (Krakow). The spiritual guide of the entire retreat, who through the prism of the adopted theme interpreted for us the word of God proclaimed in the liturgy, was the theologian and musician, Fr. Dominik Dubiel, SJ.
A complete photo gallery is already available on our website (click to watch), and later this year we plan to share a set of recordings from the retreat on our website. The date of the next edition is also known: the nineteenth retreat will take place on September 11-13, 2026, also in Tyniec – we cordially invite you now!
