Father Łukasz Miśko, president of the Dominican Liturgical Center Foundation, was appointed by the Provincial Chapter and approved by Father Provincial Łukasz Wiśniewski as the Promoter for the Liturgy of the Polish Province of the Order of Preachers.
In accordance with the provisions of the Statute of the Polish Province of the Order of Preachers, the promoter of the liturgy manages the entire liturgical life of the Province, relying on the directives of the Provincial Superior. Its tasks include informing monasteries about any changes in the liturgy, solving problems in the field of liturgy, preparing liturgical texts and ensuring the unity of liturgical forms.
In holding the office, our president replaced Father Dominik Jurczak, who belonged to the group of officials of the Province from the previous chapter, i.e. from March 2018.
During his term of office, Father Dominik, in close cooperation with our Center, incl. supervised the preparation of Dominican liturgical calendar and the issuing of a draft version of the so-called Dominican Missal and other documents; or the preparation of the Polish edition of prayers before the general chapter. He also responded to numerous doubts related to the celebration of the liturgy during a pandemic, using, inter alia, a specially created, inside page for brothers. These duties and subjects will now be taken over by Fr. Lukasz, because, for example, the publication of the approved version of the Lectionary Missal is a matter of the next few years.
Father Dominik Jurczak remains chairman of the International Liturgical Commission of the Order of Preachers, which he was appointed in 2020 for a six-year term by the General of the Order, Father Gerard Francisco Parco Timoner III. He is also a lecturer at the Pontifical Liturgical Institute “Anselmianum” and the Pontifical University “Angelicum” in Rome, and a regular collaborator of our Foundation.
Fr. Łukasz Miśko in the years 2009-2019 worked in the USA: in the pastoral team of Columbia University in New York, Holy Family Cathedral in Anchorage, University of Washington Newman Center in Seattle and St. Catherine’s Newman Center in Salt Lake City. In July 2019, he returned to Poland to take the position of president of the Dominican Liturgical Center Foundation. In November 2020, he was also appointed a member of the Subcommittee for Liturgical Music of the Order’s Liturgical Commission. In mid-April 2021, he was also elected prior of the St. Wojciech Convent in Wrocław.
